Fifi Comes to Visit Tulsa

I was sleeping in this morning after the busy weekend and Josh says "We have to go!"

What is so important that I can't sleep in and be lazy all day?

Fifi came to Tulsa!

Fifi is important because its the only flying B-29.

And in case you are like me and you don't know what a B-29 is without someone telling you... the B-29 is the plane that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan.  I don't really know the difference or get excited by the aviation stuff, but it is fun to see Josh and his dad get all excited. :)

While we are on the topic of aviation I figured I would share this one too. This is the view Josh has when he pushes back a plane.  I love how instagram makes it all artsy fartsy. *laughs*

Indie Emporium Success

Oh my! Indie Emporium was so much fun!  Last year, when I went as a customer I had so much fun, and this year was no change even though I was "working"!  I love shows like this!

This was the end result of my booth, much like the layout in the kitchen earlier this week. Note to self: I need a shorter chair, which shouldn't be a problem because I broke my desk chair this weekend during all the hustle and bustle.

As a little favor prize with a purchase I handed out stickers I made using the picture from the elephant fabric I use to make pictures.  In case you are wondering this little elephant is a Valori Wells design. I heart it so much.

Indie Emporium

Indie Emporium is coming up this weekend!!!  I'm in a flurry of production to get ready for the show.  I'm doing really good in not panicking which is good because there is not room in this apartment to panic!

This is just about as bad as it gets in the production stage! Oh no, not really, but this was pretty close to absolute destruction.  The end result is coming along though.  Check out my mock-up booth in the kitchen.

I'm not sure this is going to be the exact layout, but given the space I think it is pretty close! I'm so excited!

This herd and I are ready for a weekend of fun and friends. Hope to see you there!

Live - Laugh - Love ----Redo!

My grandma gave us a nice frame at our wedding shower last weekend. However, there are just a couple problems...

First, the "live laugh love" theme doesn't really fit into our decor.

My mom and grandma both like the theme, and so these frames seem to be an easy go-to gift for them. My mom has figured out that they don't fit with us, but not grandma hasn't so I hope she isn't offended when I show her how I redid the frame.

I ended up using spray paint because it is a plastic frame and a paint brush wasn't cutting it. I also sent a piece of chalk cloth through the sticker maker to replace the previous wording. Now josh and I can leave notes for each other.

I tried to find a lyric to start off with but "Cherishing you is implied" seemed more appropriate because it's part of our story, not someone else's.

The second problem with the frame is that Josh and I don't do pictures. I mean we have pictures of us an family on our phones, but not hanging. It just isn't something we are interested in doing now. That's not weird is it? I just figure that when we have kids we might do it then, but it doesn't seem necessary right now.

Anyway, my fix to this is to order prints from Etsy. I found a shop, "Owl you Need is Love", that has wonderful prints. She has made me custom orders so I can get them in different sizes for these frames and a few others I have sitting empty on the dresser.

This is one that should be arriving any day (in tangerine).

This one will arrive in the color "seafoam" in a couple weeks.

And this one is on my newest mental wishlist because I want it in full size. :)

Trivet Fail!

I tried texting a friend about my fail tonight and my phone didn't even believe me - it auto-corrected to "gail" which was also a fail. Hummpf.  I should have been working on pillows for an upcoming craft show so I guess this is kind of my punishment.

One of my new Grandmas (Josh's side) sent me a picture on Facebook of a stone trivet that looked simple enough to make...

See! Just a few rocks, and what appears to be painted cork. Easy Peasy! So tonight after a trip to Michael's I spent a respectable amount of time getting pillows ready to be sewn and then I had to break into my new craft project.

The small cork board come in 6" squares, 4 in a package for $3.99, but I used coupons of course. I used a small desert plate to make it a perfect circle. Cut another circle from a piece of felt to cover the cork which was an ugly mistake, but not the worst of it.  The worst mistake was thinking the flat sided marbles that were on sale for $1 would have the same effect as the river rocks.  They don't!

What an awful mess.  Lacey, the aforementioned friend, suggested I used a different color felt. Really I think next time I will just (spray) paint the cork, but I really don't think the marbles have the right effect, unfortunately because they are less expensive.  This is definitely one of those crafts that have to be done like it is shown. Or you can just purchase them ready made, here.

Shower Favors

Preference: Josh and I are newly-weds. To celebrate our elopement we had planned on our reception in the spring, but, much to our surprise, friends wanted to host showers for us.  One group of friends hosted my bridal shower, which was beautiful and fun, and then my best friend and maid-of-honor, Lacey, decided to host the wedding shower.  She and I had made all of the invitations, hand scrub for favors, and this weekend -less than 24 hours before the shower, we HAD to sit down and finish the favor bags. So here we go...

This is what we made this weekend!
Click the picture for tutorial

Just kidding! This was our inspiration, but our goody bags didn't turn out quite the same.

After about an hour of this...

...mixed with some cooking and hysterical laughing we ended up with these...

Not to shabby right?!

The shower theme was "Southern Tea Party", but even if it had been a "Victorian Tea Party" these favor bags would have worked perfectly.

The breakdown:
Brown lunch bags ($1 for a package-only used 10)
Pages from an unimportant book ($1 lots of the book is left)
Cameo buttons ($0.50 each - I found earrings at the $1 Jewelry store
-broke them apart and reclaimed the cameo.)
Glue Stick (super cheap at school time)

We did end up adding little tags to each bag that said thank you.  We lined them on a table and threw out some plastic pearl bracelets around on the tulle and it was beautiful.  Mom has the pictures and will post them soon.  We had several other Pinterest Inspired crafts at the shower as well, and they turned out quite lovely, if i can say so myself. :)
